Bike (GNT) – Rannoch Station to Loch Ossian, Scotland

August 2021

Another day on the Great North Trail with Rhona. Today was definitely the most technical session I’ve done so far, with the first hour being a long steady climb up loose rocks, stones, and sand. Then at the top there was a flattish section with several streams to ford, before dropping down the other side which was much steeper, finishing off with a flattish ride along the shore of Ossian to where we finished our last trip. (It was definitely the same place, as the midges were still waiting from last time!) Great, just over 20km off-road. Now all we had to do was get back to the van, the same route we had just come. Ouch!
Although very tricky visually, I’m pleased to report that I only took one tumble, and although it was off the side of a very high hill, it was into some very soft long grass!!
Unfortunately, after a little over 40k off road, being ridden by a blind guy and hitting every rock along the way, the bike didn’t fair so well. We’ll have to see how it fairs tomorrow.
Tough ride, but absolutely loved it!
