Bike (GNT) – Rannoch Station to the 4th bridge (No, not that Forth Bridge!)

August 2021

So, I finally killed my bike!
After 16k of tracks, rocks, steep climbs, deep ruts, even deeper puddles, and several falls, my bike decided it had had enough!
The goal had been to have an easier day today, after yesterday’s hard session. We would make our way along the Great North Trail from RS towards Innerwick, planning to turn around at the 1st bridge, around 10k in. But then we pushed on to the 2nd bridge, then the 3rd, and finally the 4th bridge, when my gears went kaput!
Although Rhona knocked the metal pin thing into the hole, (sorry for the technical terminology), several times, the best we got was the bike working in it’s lowest gear. This meant that for the next 14k although my legs spun around like SuperHamster in his new wheel, the bike reached just over walking pace, which meant we almost missed our cake at RS, but not quite!
Another great day out, in some wonderful scenery, (so I’m told), but I think it’s time for a new bike!
