Bike – GNT – Warcop south to near Bleatarn, England

November 2025

Last June Rhona and I had set off from Kirkby Stephens heading towards Appleby, when the curse of Cathy Kirkby struck, (read more here).
Today, starting at Warcop, we cycled a little over 2km south to where it had all gone wrong, before we turned around to head north to Appleby.
Although the temperature was low, (very low), the sky was blue and the sun was out. But there lay the problem.
At this time of year the sun doesn’t get very high. So, as we cycled along the lanes, the sun shone through the bare hedgerows, causing a sort of strobe effect. My eyes take several seconds to re-focus when the light changes. With rapid changing from light to dark as we moved, (even very slowly), my eyes never got into any sort of focus. Struggling to even see Rho in her bright yellow bib, it wasn’t long before I had to call it a day, before I had an accident.
A bit of a bummer, but what fun would life be if everythings went to plan!?!

GNT (one way) kms: 2.78
Total (round trip) kms: 7.58
