Bike (GNT) – Innerwick to 4th bridge, Scotland

August 2021

On arrival, we spent the first 5 minutes sat in the van avoiding the rain. 20 minutes into the bike ride we were soaked to the skin, but the rain was not to blame!
Rhona & I had thought our last 2 outings on the Great North Trial had been tough, but they were just warm ups for today.
With my bike having had a temporary fix, we left the van at the carpark, and headed to the beginning of today’s route, at the foot of a hill. For the next 2.5km the route was steep, rocky, and very slippery, forcing us to get off and push a couple of times.
Once at the top of the hill, although relatively flat, the path didn’t get much easier, with large rocks, deep puddles, and, (for me), several falls.
Then it was all down hill, through the woods, to the 4th bridge, before turning around and heading back the way we had just come.
A short return trip of only32km, with 595m ascent this was definitely the most testing section for us so far.
