Ratho

April 2014

What a glorious day to be messing around on the river, with Andy and Barry from Wilderness SUP.  (OK, so it was the Union Canal, but hey, that’s almost a river, isn’t it?)  Anyway, as I was saying, a glorious day, the sun was in the sky, the birds were in the trees, and occasionally so was I!
The usual routine is that for guidance purposes, Andy wears his cycling jacket for me to see, and like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, I had to “follow the yellow bricht jacket”.  (That’s not a misspelling, it’s olde Scots, and don’t call me Dorothy!)  However, on this trip I wanted to try to self-guide by following the canal bank.  For 90% of the time this worked well, with occasional guidance from the guys, but every now and then some weeds or a tree would reach out and try to pull me off my board.  (Darn that vegetation!)
A fantastic trip was had, and yet again I managed to stay dry!  We then went on to make our plans for our first BIG Scottish SUP adventure.  We’re looking at mid-June.  I’ll keep you posted.
